The first venues of Skidspelen
Norway and Finland dunring 1940’s, Sweden was looking at creating a equivalent event to the famous competitions. Through this idea, Svenska Skidspelen was founded in 1947. Until 1959, the venue was alternating between several Swedish cities each year. But in 1959 and onwards, Falun was assigned to be the official organiser of Svenska Skidspelen.
In 1961, Svenska Skidspelen created its first official pin and was formed as a ski as a symbol of the sport. The reason behind the creation of the pin was not only to bring the sport forward, but also to state as a symbol that would represent Falun municipality. Falun became the city of Svenska Skidspelen.
Bubo - Our Official Mascot
Up until FIS Cross-Country World Championships, a competition was held to create an official mascot to the games. The winner of the competition was Bubo. Bubo bubo is the latin name of the Eagle owl, which is the symbol of Dalarna, and became immediately a natural symbol of Svenska Skidspelen.
